How to Set Up Low Stock Warnings with NetSuite Auto-Calculate Reorder Points
NetSuite's auto-calculate feature can be leveraged with saved searches and scheduled emails to provide proactive inventory reorder point notifications.
Short answer
NetSuite can provide low stock warnings even with auto-calculate reorder points enabled. By creating a scheduled saved search that outputs the reorder point and current quantity on hand/available, an email can be triggered when stock levels fall below the reorder point. For real-time, on-demand alerts, a transaction-based script is required.
Scenario
Organizations utilizing NetSuite's auto-calculate feature for reorder points often seek a method to receive automated warnings when inventory levels approach or fall below these critical thresholds. The goal is to proactively manage stock and prevent shortages, ideally with automated notifications.
Solution
NetSuite can output the auto-calculated Reorder Point value in a search, which can then be compared against current inventory levels to trigger warnings. The following steps outline how to achieve this:
Create a saved search that includes fields for the item's auto-calculated Reorder Point and its current Quantity On Hand (or Quantity Available).
Configure the saved search to send an email notification when the Quantity On Hand (or Quantity Available) reaches or falls below the Reorder Point.
Schedule this email to be sent daily, as an "on demand" email will not trigger based on stock variation alone.
For scenarios requiring an immediate, on-demand email notification the moment an item hits its reorder point, a script would need to be implemented on relevant transactions to monitor the condition and trigger the alert.
