How to Print NetSuite Packing Slips on Thermal Printers?
While standard NetSuite packing slips are PDF-based, modern solutions leverage integrated shipping labels and third-party apps for thermal printing.
Short answer
NetSuite's standard packing slip generation produces PDFs. However, users can now utilize Integrated Shipping Labels, which combine packing slip details and print in thermal formats (EPL/ZPL). Additionally, various third-party SuiteApps offer direct thermal printing capabilities from within NetSuite, providing flexible solutions beyond external PDF converters.
Scenario
Organizations often require the ability to print packing slips using thermal printers for efficiency in warehousing and shipping operations. The challenge arises when attempting to integrate NetSuite's native packing slip generation, which typically outputs PDF documents, with the specific requirements of thermal printing technology.
Solution
NetSuite's official position indicates that direct thermal printing for standard packing slips is considered an enhancement. While native packing slip generation typically produces PDF documents, NetSuite has evolved to support thermal printing through specific functionalities.
Integrated Shipping Labels
NetSuite now offers 'Integrated Shipping Labels' which can incorporate packing slip details directly into thermal printer formats such as EPL and ZPL. This allows for combined label and packing slip printing on thermal printers.
Third-Party SuiteApps
Numerous third-party SuiteApps are available that provide direct thermal printing capabilities from within NetSuite. These solutions can handle various labels, including those with packing slip information, offering a more integrated approach than external tools.
External Conversion Tools
For scenarios where direct integration is not feasible or desired, external solutions such as PDF to EPL2 converters can still be utilized. This method involves generating the packing slip as a PDF from NetSuite and then converting it to a thermal printer-compatible format outside the system.
