How to Use Service Items as Components in NetSuite Assemblies
Understand the account configuration required for service items to be included in assembly builds and kits.
Short answer
To include a service item as a component in a NetSuite assembly, an Expense account must be defined on the service item record. While not always strictly mandatory, it is often recommended to also define an Income account for comprehensive financial tracking.
Scenario
Users attempting to add a service item as a component to an assembly in NetSuite may find the item unavailable for selection. This typically occurs when the service item's financial accounts are not configured correctly, preventing its use in manufacturing or kit processes.
Solution
For a service item to be available as a component within a NetSuite assembly, an Expense account must be specified on the service item record. Additionally, when an Expense account is defined on the service item record, it is often recommended to also define an Income account for complete financial reporting.
