How to Make a Custom Record Type Accessible Under Lists > Employees in NetSuite

Learn how to configure the links subtab of a custom record type to ensure it appears correctly within the NetSuite Lists > Employees menu.

Short answer

To make a custom record type accessible under Lists > Employees, configure its links subtab by selecting Center (Classic Center), Section (Lists), Category (Employees), and a Label. Also, set Insert Before to "Employee". If the link doesn't appear, clear your browser cache or log out and back into NetSuite.

Scenario

Users may encounter an issue where a newly created custom record type is not visible in the expected NetSuite menu path, specifically under Lists > Employees, despite initial configuration attempts. This can prevent users from accessing and utilizing the custom record.

Solution

To ensure a custom record type is accessible under Lists > Employees, follow these configuration steps:

  1. When editing the custom record type, navigate to the Links subtab.

  2. Configure the following fields:

    • Center: Classic Center
    • Section: Lists
    • Category: Employees
    • Label: [Enter the desired label for your custom record]
    • Insert Before: Employee

If the custom record link does not appear after saving, it may be due to a caching issue within NetSuite or your browser. To resolve this, try one of the following:

    • Flush your browser's cache (e.g., ctrl-F5 works in Google Chrome).
    • Log out of NetSuite and then log back in, as this also usually clears the cache.
