How to Calculate Discount Amount Per Item in NetSuite Saved Searches?

NetSuite users can accurately determine the total discount applied to each item on transactions by leveraging a specific formula within a saved search.

Short answer

To calculate the discount amount per item in NetSuite, create a saved search and use the formula `{grossamount}-{amount}`. This formula subtracts the discounted sales amount from the gross amount, providing the exact discount given for each item. Grouping the results by item will then display the total discount applied on a per-item basis.

Scenario

Organizations often need to track the exact value of discounts applied to individual items on sales transactions. When non-posting discounts are used, standard NetSuite fields may not directly show the discount amount per item. This makes it challenging to analyze the financial impact of promotional activities or pricing strategies on a granular level.

Solution

To determine the discount amount given per item on transactions in NetSuite, configure a saved search with the following steps:

  1. Create a new transaction saved search.

  2. Add the 'Amount' field to the results, which represents the discounted sales amount.

  3. Add the 'Amount (Gross)' field to the results, which represents the amount before the discount.

  4. Add a new 'Formula (Currency)' result field.

  5. Enter the following formula into the 'Formula' field:

{grossamount}-{amount}
  1. Group the saved search results by 'Item' to aggregate the discount amounts for each product.
