Why Does a NetSuite Search for an Assembly Item Return Multiple Results?

NetSuite item searches can yield unexpected multiple results for assembly items due to alternative item IDs stored in the vendor sublist.

Short answer

NetSuite searches on assembly item IDs may return multiple results if alternative item IDs are present in the item's vendor sublist. The system uses any vendor code entered in this sublist as an alternative item ID, causing it to be matched in searches on the item ID field, leading to more than one result for a single item.

Scenario

Users may observe that a NetSuite search performed on an assembly item's Item ID field, even with an 'is' filter, unexpectedly returns more than one result. This behavior occurs despite the expectation that a unique item ID should yield a single, specific item.

Solution

On assembly items, there is a sublist called the vendor sublist. Any information entered in the vendor code portion of the vendor sublist will be used as an alternative itemid for that item and will be returnable in search on itemid.
