How to Display Fiscal Quarters in NetSuite Saved Searches
NetSuite users can accurately represent transaction dates within their custom fiscal calendar's quarters using specific saved search configurations.
Short answer
To display fiscal quarters in NetSuite saved searches, either add the 'Accounting Period : Parent' field for transaction searches, which reflects the posting period's quarter, or use an ADD_MONTHS formula on the {trandate} field to offset the date according to your fiscal year start, adjusting for 'Year in Period Name' settings.
Scenario
NetSuite users often need to display transaction dates as fiscal quarters within saved searches. The standard 'Quarter of Date' function may not accurately reflect the organization's custom fiscal calendar, leading to discrepancies when reporting on financial periods. This guide addresses how to correctly represent transaction dates according to a specific fiscal year.
Solution
There are two primary methods to display fiscal quarters in NetSuite saved searches:
Using the Accounting Period : Parent Field:
If the saved search is a transaction search, the field
Accounting Period : Parentcan be added to the results. This field displays the posting period’s quarter. For instance, in an account where the fiscal calendar runs July to June, an invoice dated in January will correctly show as Q3 in the Parent column.Using the ADD_MONTHS Formula:
An
ADD_MONTHSformula can be applied to the{trandate}field to offset the date to align with the start of the fiscal year. For example, if the fiscal calendar runs from July to June, to make a transaction dated in January appear as Q3, the following adjustments can be made: Add 6 months to it if 'Year in Period Name' is set to 'Ending Year of Period'. Subtract 6 months from it if 'Year in Period Name' is set to 'Starting Year of Period'. This adjustment should be made according to the specific fiscal calendar configuration.
