How to Identify NetSuite Inventory Items Not Assigned to Bins?

Discover how to use a NetSuite saved search to pinpoint inventory items with available quantity that are not assigned to any bin locations.

Short answer

To find inventory items with available quantity but no bin assignment, create a NetSuite saved search. Apply summary filters to check where the sum of 'Bin on Hand Available' is 0, while the sum of 'Available' quantity is greater than 0. This configuration effectively isolates unbinned stock.

Scenario

A common inventory management challenge in NetSuite is identifying items that possess an available quantity but have not been assigned to any specific bin locations. This situation can lead to discrepancies in stock visibility and operational inefficiencies, as these items may exist physically but are not properly tracked within the bin management system.

Solution

To identify inventory items that have an available quantity but are not associated with any bin locations, configure a NetSuite saved search. Navigate to the 'Criteria' subtab. Within the 'Criteria' subtab, apply the following summary filters. These filters leverage summary types to evaluate the total quantities:

-Sum Bin on hand available is 0-Sum available > 0

This configuration ensures that the search results will display only those inventory items where the aggregated quantity available across all bins is zero, despite the item having a positive overall available quantity.
