How Does NetSuite Handle Standard Cost Rounding in Inventory?

NetSuite's default UI rounding for standard costs can be bypassed using CSV imports, SuiteScript, or formula fields in saved searches for greater decimal precision.

Short answer

NetSuite's UI rounds standard cost values, but more decimal precision can be achieved via CSV imports or SuiteScript. For saved searches and reports, standard costs will also round unless a numeric formula field is used to display the exact value, ensuring accurate reporting of inventory costs.

Scenario

Users may observe that NetSuite automatically rounds standard cost values when these are entered directly through the user interface. This rounding behavior can lead to a loss of precision, which might be undesirable for detailed inventory cost management. Additionally, standard costs displayed in saved searches and reports often reflect this rounding, potentially impacting financial analysis.

Solution

NetSuite's user interface inherently rounds Standard Cost values upon entry. As of 8/2/2012, this behavior is observed. To maintain greater decimal precision for Standard Cost values, users can leverage alternative input methods: Setting the value by CSV Import allows for more decimals. Setting the value by SuiteScript allows for more decimals. When viewing Standard Costs in saved searches and reports, the values will also typically be rounded. Saved Searches and reports will round as well, unless you do a Formula Field (numeric) to display the standard cost.
