What are the Display Limits for NetSuite Transaction Column Text Fields?
Understand how NetSuite displays and truncates long text values in transaction column fields across various types like Free-form text, Text area, and Inline HTML.
Short answer
NetSuite transaction column fields display up to 300 characters for Free-form text, 4,000 for Text area, and 4,000 bytes/characters for Inline HTML in view mode. Longer values are truncated, indicated by ellipses or a 'Read more' option. This behavior ensures optimal display within sublists.
Scenario
Users often encounter situations where long text entered into transaction column fields appears truncated when viewing a record. This behavior can lead to confusion regarding the actual character limits and how NetSuite handles the display of extensive text entries within sublists, such as the item sublist on a sales order.
Solution
In view mode, the number of characters displayed for transaction column fields varies by field type. If the entered value exceeds the display limit, the content will be truncated, and ellipses or a 'Read more' option will be appended to the field to indicate that more content is available. This behavior applies to the following field types:nn* Free-form text: Displays up to 300 characters.n* Text area: Displays up to 4,000 characters.n* Inline HTML: Displays up to 4,000 bytes/characters.
This display behavior has been observed on sublists, such as the item sublist on a sales order.
