How to Create a NetSuite Hyperlink Field with Dynamic Field References?
Configure a custom hyperlink field in NetSuite to dynamically include values from other fields, avoiding unintended formula errors.
Short answer
When creating a hyperlink field with dynamic references using `{}` in NetSuite, the system may incorrectly mark it as a formula. To resolve this, save the field, then edit it to uncheck the 'Formula' checkbox. This ensures the link functions correctly without errors.
Scenario
When a custom hyperlink field in NetSuite includes a reference to another field's value using the `{}` syntax, the system automatically interprets the entire link as a formula. For instance, if a user attempts to create a link to a case creation form that passes the current form's company ID, NetSuite will automatically select the 'Formula' checkbox upon initial save. This incorrect interpretation causes a formula error when the field is subsequently loaded on a form.
Solution
When creating a hyperlink field with a dynamic reference, NetSuite may automatically select the 'Formula' checkbox, leading to errors. To correctly configure the field:
Create the custom field as a 'Hyperlink' type.
Set its default value to the desired URL, including the field reference. For example:
https://system.netsuite.com/app/crm/support/supportcase.nl?default{companyid}Save the custom field. NetSuite will automatically select the 'Formula' checkbox.
Edit the newly saved custom field.
Uncheck the 'Formula' checkbox.
Save the field again. NetSuite will now retain this setting, and the hyperlink will function as intended without formula errors.
