Why Are Sales Order Tax Codes Not Updating for New Canadian Provinces in NetSuite?

NetSuite may not fully configure all tax components when a new Canadian nexus is created, leading to sales order tax codes failing to update for the new province.

Short answer

Sales order tax codes may not update for new Canadian provinces because NetSuite sometimes incompletely configures new nexuses. Users must manually verify the creation and correct linking of tax codes, tax groups, tax schedules, and ensure the new nexus is properly assigned to the relevant subsidiary record. This ensures all tax components are correctly synchronized.

Scenario

Users may encounter an issue where sales order tax codes do not automatically update for newly created Canadian provinces. This typically occurs after a new Canadian tax nexus has been established in NetSuite. The system may not fully complete all necessary configurations, leading to incorrect or missing tax calculations on sales orders.

Solution

NetSuite may not always complete the full configuration when a new Canadian Nexus is created. To resolve sales order tax code update issues, verify the following components manually:

  1. Verify that the Tax Codes were created for the new Nexus.

  2. Verify that the Tax Groups were created and contain the correct Tax Codes.

  3. Verify that the Tax Schedule has a new entry under Non-US Nexuses for the Canadian Nexus you just created.

  4. Verify in the Set Up Taxes that your new Nexus is under the Canada subtab in the Tax sublist.

  5. Verify the subsidiary record. Under the Nexuses subtab, ensure that the new Nexus created is in the list. The extent of manual updates required can vary. For example, creating a Quebec (QC) Nexus might only necessitate updating the Tax Schedule, whereas a Nova Scotia Nexus could require updates to both the Tax Schedule and the Subsidiary record.
