How to Resolve NetSuite Intranet Image Thumbnail Not Displaying

Learn why NetSuite image thumbnails may fail to display in non-web-store contexts due to malformed URLs caused by the URL Component field.

Short answer

NetSuite image thumbnails may not display in intranet or non-web-store contexts if the 'URL Component' field is incorrectly populated, leading to a malformed URL. To resolve, edit the image file record and clear the value from the 'URL Component' field, allowing NetSuite to generate a valid image path.

Scenario

Users may encounter situations where image thumbnails, particularly those intended for internal NetSuite pages or "intranet" contexts, fail to display. Investigation reveals that NetSuite attempts to load the image using a malformed URL, preventing the image from being found and rendered correctly.

Solution

While the 'URL Component' and 'Descriptive URL' fields are legitimate features primarily used for web store (Site Builder/SuiteCommerce) images to enhance SEO and user-friendly URLs, their incorrect application or configuration in non-web-store or intranet contexts can lead to malformed image paths. When an image file intended for an intranet context has a value in its 'URL Component' field, NetSuite may attempt to construct an invalid URL, such as:

https://system.netsuite.com/URLComponent.png?resizeid-7&resizeh€&resizew€&expurlT

This malformed URL prevents the image from being located and displayed. To resolve this issue, the 'URL Component' value must be removed from the affected image file record.Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the specific image file record within NetSuite.

  2. Edit the file record.

  3. Locate the 'URL Component' field.

  4. Clear any existing value from this field.

  5. Save the file record. After removing the 'URL Component', NetSuite will generate a correct and accessible URL for the image, allowing the thumbnail to display as expected.
