How to Control Printing Behavior for Item Groups and Kits on NetSuite Transactions

Learn how to configure NetSuite Item Group and Kit/Package Item records to manage whether component items display on printed purchase orders and sales orders.

Short answer

The "Display Components on Transactions" option on an Item Group or Kit/Package Item record, located under the Purchasing/Inventory-->Components subtab, controls whether individual components print on transactions. Adjust this setting to toggle between printing the group/kit name only or including its constituent items.

Scenario

NetSuite users need to control the level of detail displayed on printed purchase orders (POs) and sales orders (SOs) for Item Groups and Kit/Package Items. Specifically, they require the ability to either show only the main group/kit item or to expand and display all its individual component items on the printed transaction.

Solution

  1. To configure the printing behavior for Item Groups or Kit/Package Items, navigate to the respective item record.

  2. On the item record, select the Purchasing/Inventory subtab.

  3. Within the Components section, locate the "Display Components on Transactions" option.

  4. Check this box to ensure that the individual components of the Item Group or Kit/Package Item are displayed on printed transactions (e.g., Purchase Orders, Sales Orders). Uncheck the box if only the main Item Group or Kit/Package Item name should appear without its components.

  5. Save the item record to apply the changes.

  6. Note on behavior: In some instances, if a transaction was initially saved with an Item Group or Kit/Package Item configured not to display components, and the "Display Components on Transactions" setting is later changed, it may be necessary to remove the item from the transaction and then re-add it to ensure the new printing preference is reflected on the printed output.
