How to Delete a Subsidiary Record in NetSuite with Dependent Vendors
Learn how to delete a NetSuite subsidiary by first managing its associated vendor records.
Short answer
To delete a NetSuite subsidiary with dependent vendor records, temporarily modify the 'Tax agency' vendor category, delete all associated vendor records, then restore the 'Tax agency' category. Finally, the subsidiary can be deleted through the Subsidiaries list. This process ensures all dependencies are resolved.
Scenario
Users attempting to delete a NetSuite subsidiary record may encounter an error indicating the presence of dependent records. This typically occurs when vendor records, particularly those designated as tax agencies, are linked to the subsidiary. These dependencies prevent direct deletion of the subsidiary.
Solution
To successfully delete a NetSuite subsidiary that has dependent vendor records, follow these steps:
Navigate to Lists > Relationships > Vendor Categories.
Edit the 'Tax agency' vendor category. Modify its configuration to temporarily remove its 'Tax Agency' designation, then save the changes.
Attempt to delete the subsidiary: Go to Setup > Company > Subsidiaries, edit the target subsidiary record, then click on Actions > Delete. Observe the message indicating dependent records prevent deletion.
Drill down on the 'dependent records' link provided in the error message.
The associated vendor records will now be editable. Delete all vendor records linked to the subsidiary. Once all related vendor records are deleted:
Navigate to Lists > Relationships > Vendor Categories.
Edit the 'Tax agency' vendor category. Restore its 'Tax Agency' designation, then save the changes.
Return to Setup > Company > Subsidiaries and edit the subsidiary record intended for deletion.
Click on Actions > Delete. Confirm the deletion when prompted.
The subsidiary record can now be deleted.
Important: It is crucial to restore the 'Tax Agency' designation for the vendor category after the subsidiary has been successfully deleted. For further details, refer to relevant NetSuite documentation.
