How to Configure Email Redirection in NetSuite Sandbox Environments?

NetSuite sandbox environments offer flexible options to control outgoing email behavior, preventing unintended communications during testing.

Short answer

To manage email sending in NetSuite sandbox, navigate to Setup > Company > Email Preferences and locate the 'Sandbox and Release Preview' section. Administrators can disable all outgoing emails, redirect them to the logged-in user, or specify a list of comma-separated email addresses. Note that security-sensitive emails may bypass these redirection settings.

Scenario

When working in NetSuite sandbox, beta, or demo environments, it is crucial to prevent test emails from being sent to actual customers or external recipients. Organizations need a reliable method to control outgoing email communications to ensure data integrity and avoid confusion during development and testing phases.

Solution

NetSuite provides robust options to manage email behavior within sandbox, beta, and release preview environments. Administrators can configure these settings by navigating to:

Setup > Company > Email Preferences

Within this page, locate the 'Sandbox and Release Preview' section. From this section, the following options are available for outgoing emails:

  1. Do not send any emails: All outgoing emails are suppressed.

  2. Redirect all outgoing emails to the logged in user: All emails are sent to the user currently logged into the sandbox environment.

  3. Redirect all outgoing emails to a list of comma separated email addresses: All emails are sent to the specified list of email addresses, overriding the original recipients.

It is important to note that security-sensitive email messages, such as password resets or account activations, and certain system-generated notifications, may bypass these sandbox email preferences and be sent to the actual recipients, regardless of the redirection settings.
