Can NetSuite RESTlets Be Configured to Change HTTP Status Codes?

NetSuite RESTlets allow developers to control the response body, but direct modification of HTTP status codes is not natively supported.

Short answer

NetSuite RESTlets do not provide a direct mechanism to alter the HTTP status code returned to the client. Developers can only control the content within the response body. The platform's architecture restricts direct manipulation of the HTTP status line, meaning custom status codes cannot be set for RESTlet responses.

Scenario

A developer is attempting to customize the HTTP status code returned by a NetSuite RESTlet. The goal is to send specific status codes (e.g., 400 Bad Request, 404 Not Found) based on business logic or error conditions within the RESTlet's execution, rather than the default NetSuite-assigned status.

Solution

NetSuite RESTlets do not offer functionality to directly modify the HTTP status code returned in a response. The platform's architecture only allows developers to control the body of the response. There are no available methods or properties within the RESTlet API to programmatically change the HTTP status code. Therefore, any custom status code requirements cannot be met directly through RESTlet scripting.
