How Do NetSuite GUI Searches Differ from Scripted Searches?

Scripted searches in NetSuite require different approaches than GUI searches, particularly for project records.

Short answer

Certain NetSuite GUI search capabilities do not translate directly to scriptable searches. While projects are easily found in the UI, scripts must search the 'job' record type. Filtering by 'entitystatus' requires using account-specific internal IDs, as universal values like '1' are unreliable.

Scenario

Users performing searches in the NetSuite user interface may find that certain search types or record relationships do not behave identically when attempting to replicate them programmatically via scripts. This often leads to confusion when trying to locate records like projects using SuiteScript.

Solution

Certain types of searches performed in the NetSuite user interface may not have a direct, identical counterpart when implemented via script. For instance, while projects are directly searchable in the GUI, scripting requires searching the 'job' record type. When filtering by 'entitystatus', it is crucial to note that the internal ID for a specific status (e.g., 'job/project') is account-specific and must be determined from your NetSuite environment, as universal values like '1' are not reliable.
