How NetSuite OneWorld Handles Cross-Subsidiary Commissions
Learn how NetSuite OneWorld manages commission schedules and their financial impacts when partners or employees earn commissions across different subsidiaries.
Short answer
NetSuite OneWorld enables partners or employees to earn commissions from sales across any subsidiary. Commission schedules can be configured at various subsidiary levels, affecting sales in child subsidiaries. All GL impacts for commissions are recorded exclusively in the partner's or employee's home subsidiary, preventing financial impact on foreign subsidiaries.
Scenario
Organizations utilizing NetSuite OneWorld often need to compensate partners or employees for sales made across different subsidiaries. A common challenge is understanding how commission schedules should be configured to capture these cross-subsidiary sales and, critically, how the associated General Ledger (GL) impacts are recorded within the OneWorld structure.
Solution
NetSuite OneWorld provides robust functionality for managing cross-subsidiary commissions.
A Partner or Employee can be assigned to customers in any subsidiary, regardless of their own home subsidiary.
Commission schedules offer flexibility in their setup:n* If a commission schedule is established at the top-most parent subsidiary, it will calculate commissions on all sales across all subsidiaries within the OneWorld account.n* If a schedule exists at a parent subsidiary level, it will collect commissions from any of its children subsidiaries. This hierarchical application also extends to Quotas.
Regarding financial implications, the General Ledger (GL) impacts of commissions are entirely recorded within the Partner's or Employee's home subsidiary. Foreign subsidiaries where the sale was originally recorded will not incur any GL impact from the commission expense. Consequently, the commission payment is processed and accounted for solely out of the Partner's or Employee's subsidiary.
