How to Assign a Specific Entry Form to NetSuite Online Case Records
A workaround using custom fields and client-side/server-side scripting can ensure online case forms default to a designated entry form.
Short answer
To direct online case forms to a specific entry form, implement a hidden custom checkbox field. Use a client script on pageInit to set this field, and an afterSubmit user event script to evaluate conditions. This setup helps influence NetSuite's form selection process, ensuring the desired entry form is applied.
Scenario
Users submitting cases via an Online Case Form require these new case records to consistently open with a specific custom Entry Form, rather than NetSuite's default preferred form. The system's default behavior often overrides initial form selections.
Solution
To ensure online case records utilize a specific entry form, the following workaround can be implemented:
Add a custom hidden checkbox field, for example, named 'Is Port Request', to both the Online Case Form and the target Entry Form.
Implement a client script with a pageInit event on the Online Case Form to set the value of the 'Is Port Request' field to 'T'.
Configure an afterSubmit user event script. This script should include logic to check if the 'Is Port Request' field is true and if the current custom form is not already the 'Port Request Entry Form'.
It was observed that this configuration resulted in the custom form aligning with the desired 'Port Request Entry Form'. It is important to note that records in an afterSubmit context are typically read-only, which limits direct modification of the record's form. NetSuite's default behavior appears to set the custom form to the preferred value somewhere between the beforeSubmit and afterSubmit events.
