How to Display Clickable Links in NetSuite Sublist Columns in Edit Mode

While standard hyperlink fields are not clickable in NetSuite sublists during edit mode, alternative field configurations can render HTML content for clickable links.

Short answer

Standard hyperlink fields are not clickable in NetSuite sublists when in edit mode, though they display clickable text in view mode. To render HTML content, including clickable links, within sublist columns, configure TEXTAREA or TEXT field types with their display type explicitly set to INLINE.

Scenario

Users often seek to display clickable links directly within sublist columns on NetSuite transaction forms while the form is in edit mode. The expectation is that a 'hyperlink' field type would allow for immediate interaction with the URL, similar to how it functions in view mode or in body fields.

Solution

When attempting to display clickable links within sublist columns on a NetSuite transaction form in edit mode, it is important to note the following behaviors:nn

  1. Standard hyperlink fields are not designed to be clickable when the form is in edit mode. A column configured as a hyperlink type will not render an interactive link, such as 'click here to launch the url', during editing.n

  2. In view mode, however, the hyperlink field type will correctly hide the raw URL and display the intended clickable text, allowing users to interact with the link.n

  3. While the INLINEHTML field type is generally unsupported in sublists, HTML content, including custom clickable links, can be rendered in sublist columns. This is achieved by using TEXTAREA or TEXT field types and setting their display type to INLINE.
