How to Enable Transaction Creation in a New NetSuite Account or Instance

New NetSuite accounts or instances require the creation of accounting posting periods before any financial transactions can be recorded.

Short answer

In a new NetSuite account or instance, transaction creation is disabled by default. To enable it, users must first establish posting periods. Navigate to Setup > Accounting > Manage Accounting Periods and create the necessary periods. This essential configuration allows the system to properly record and categorize all financial activities.

Scenario

When a NetSuite account is newly provisioned or has undergone a 'Delete All Data' operation, users may encounter an inability to create any financial transactions. This restriction prevents the recording of sales orders, invoices, journal entries, and other transactional data.

Solution

To enable transaction creation in a new NetSuite account or instance, the necessary posting periods must first be established. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Setup->Accounting->Manage Accounting Periods.

  2. Create the required posting periods to define the fiscal calendar for the account.Once posting periods are configured, the system will allow the creation and processing of transactions.
