How to Resolve ‘Execute as Role’ Validation Errors in NetSuite SSP Files?

Understand and configure file record-level permissions for NetSuite SSP files to ensure successful application recompilation and prevent user access errors.

Short answer

To resolve the 'Execute as Role' validation error, enable permissions on the file record's Permission Subtab, select an appropriate role like Administrator, save, and then revert permissions to 'Current User' and disable them after recompilation to prevent end-user access issues.

Scenario

NetSuite users may encounter a 'Please enter value(s) for Execute as Role' validation error when saving file records, especially after the 2016.2 release. This occurs because new file record-level permissions for application recompilation are not granted by default. Explicit permission settings are required to allow users to edit SSP files and trigger solution compilation.

Solution

To address the 'Please enter value(s) for Execute as Role' validation issue and enable application recompilation, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Permission Subtab on the file record.

  2. Select the 'Enabled' checkbox.

  3. From the list of available roles, choose an appropriate role. While 'Current User' is a valid selection, it may lead to permission violations if the logged-in user's role lacks necessary permissions. It is recommended to select an alternate role with sufficient privileges, such as Full Access, Administrator, or Web Site Manager, if available, to ensure successful submission.

  4. Click 'Save' on the file record to submit the changes and trigger the solution compilation.

Important: It is crucial to revert these permission changes once the application has successfully recompiled and the changes are verified. Failure to do so will prevent end users from loading the page, resulting in a NetSuite 'page not found' error and redirection.

    To revert the permissions:

  5. Click 'Edit' on the file record again.

  6. Navigate to the Permissions Subtab.

  7. Set 'Execute as Role' back to 'Current User'.

  8. Set 'Enabled' as false.

  9. Click 'Save' on the file record.
