NetSuite Balance Sheet Error: ‘Default Accounting Period Not Defined’
This guide addresses the "Report Execution Error" on the Balance Sheet, often caused by misconfigured accounting period preferences.
Short answer
The "Report Execution Error" on the NetSuite Balance Sheet, often stating "The default accounting period for this report has not been defined," occurs when the report's date falls outside a defined Base Period. While a historical workaround involved a specific URL parameter, ensuring correct accounting period setup is crucial for resolution.
Scenario
When attempting to generate a Balance Sheet report in NetSuite (Reports > Financial > Balance Sheet), users may encounter a "Report Execution Error." This error is often observed when the 'Report by Period' preference, located under Home > Set Preferences > Analytics tab, is set to 'Financials Only'. The error message typically states: 'The default accounting period for this report has not been defined.' This situation arises when the date selected for the report does not belong to a properly defined Base Period, such as running a report for a Fiscal Year that lacks associated Quarters or Periods.
Solution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
A previously suggested resolution involved appending
&crit_1_modTHto the end of the report URL. It is important to note that this parameter is not found in current NetSuite documentation and may no longer be functional. After modifying the URL (if applicable), click Refresh.
Navigate again to Reports > Financial > Balance Sheet. The report should now be viewable.Further information on this topic may be available in SuiteAnswers, potentially under titles related to Balance Sheet report errors or undefined accounting periods.
