Why Does a NetSuite Sublist Continuously Load or Fail to Render?

Sublists that appear to load indefinitely in NetSuite often indicate underlying issues with client-side scripts or incorrect field sourcing.

Short answer

A NetSuite sublist that continuously loads typically points to one of two issues: either a client-side script executing in the 'before load' event is attempting to access a non-existent or null value, or a column field within the sublist is incorrectly sourcing a null or invalid value.

Scenario

Users may encounter a situation in NetSuite where a sublist on a record page continuously displays a loading indicator and never fully renders its content. This prevents interaction with the sublist and can hinder data entry or review processes.

Solution

When a NetSuite sublist continuously loads, the issue typically stems from one of two primary causes:

  1. A client-side script configured to run during the 'before load' event is attempting to retrieve a value that is either null or does not exist. This can cause the script to hang or error, preventing the sublist from fully rendering.

  2. One of the column fields within the sublist is incorrectly configured to source a value that is null or otherwise invalid. Ensuring all sourced values are valid and present is crucial for proper sublist display.
