Why Do Non-Stored NetSuite Sales Order Fields Only Calculate in Edit Mode?
NetSuite's design dictates that non-stored custom transaction body or column fields may not display calculated values in view mode, only during editing.
Short answer
NetSuite's standard behavior for non-stored custom fields on sales orders is to calculate and display values only when the record is in edit mode. In view mode, these fields typically appear blank or do not reflect their calculated output. Currently, there is no known workaround to force these fields to calculate in view mode.
Scenario
A user observes that a non-stored custom calculated value field on a NetSuite Sales Order (SO) correctly displays its calculated value when the sales order is in edit mode. However, when the same sales order is saved and viewed, the custom field does not show the calculated value, appearing blank or uncalculated.
Solution
Currently, this behavior is considered standard within NetSuite. Multiple inquiries into this issue have not yielded a known workaround or solution to enable non-stored custom fields to display calculated values in view mode on sales orders. Users should be aware that these fields are designed to calculate dynamically during the editing process.
