How to Concatenate Two Field Values in NetSuite for Display
Combine the content of two existing NetSuite fields into a single custom field for dynamic display on records and forms.
Short answer
To concatenate two fields in NetSuite, create a custom field and uncheck 'Store Value'. Set its 'Default Value' formula to {field1}||' '||{field2}. This configuration dynamically displays the combined content of the specified fields, separated by a space, without storing the concatenated result in the database.
Scenario
NetSuite users frequently need to display information from multiple fields as a single, combined string. This requirement often arises when presenting data in a more readable or consolidated format on records, reports, or forms, without altering the original field values. For example, combining a first name and last name into a full name field.
Solution
To concatenate two fields in NetSuite, configure a custom field with the following settings:
Ensure the 'Store Value' checkbox is unchecked for the custom field. This prevents the concatenated value from being saved to the database, ensuring dynamic calculation.
Set the 'Default Value' of the custom field to the following formula. Replace {field1} and {field2} with the actual field IDs of the fields you wish to combine:
{field1}||' '||{field2}This formula uses the concatenation operator (||) to join the values of {field1} and {field2}, inserting a space character (' ') between them. This setup ensures that the custom field dynamically displays the combined values of the specified fields.
