How to Unlock a NetSuite User After Failed Login Attempts

Administrators can quickly restore user access and initiate password resets within NetSuite to resolve lockout situations.

Short answer

To unlock a NetSuite user, administrators can utilize the User Access Reset Tool or navigate to the employee record's Access tab. Resetting the password and ensuring the 'Require Password Change On Next Login' checkbox is marked will restore access and prompt a new password creation.

Scenario

When a NetSuite user attempts to log in multiple times with incorrect credentials, their account may become locked out after a certain number of failed attempts (e.g., six). This prevents the user from accessing the system and requires administrative intervention to restore access.

Solution

Administrators can unlock a NetSuite user account and reset their password using one of two methods:

  1. Using the User Access Reset Tool (Preferred Method):

    • Navigate to Setup > Users/Roles > User Access Reset Tool.
    • This centralized tool allows administrators to efficiently unlock user accounts and initiate password resets.
  2. Using the Employee Record (Alternative Method):

    • Access the employee record for the locked-out user.
    • Navigate to the Access tab.
    • Change the user's password.
    • Ensure the following checkboxes are selected:
    • The checkbox for sending a notification email (which may be named 'Send New Access Notification Email' or similar).
    • Require Password Change On Next Login
    • Communicate the temporary password to the user, advising them that they will be prompted to create a new password upon their next login.
