Why Do NetSuite Workflow Actions Show as Performed by an Administrator?
Understand how workflow actions triggered by buttons can attribute system notes to an administrator role, even without explicit 'Execute as Admin' settings.
Short answer
NetSuite workflows that utilize 'Set Field Value' actions triggered by buttons will inherently record system notes as if performed by an administrator. This occurs regardless of whether the 'Execute as Admin' option is enabled for the workflow action. This behavior is standard for button-triggered workflow actions that modify records.
Scenario
Users observe that system notes generated by certain workflow actions indicate an administrator role as the performer. This occurs even when the workflow action is not explicitly configured with the 'Execute as Admin' setting. This behavior can lead to confusion regarding the origin of record changes.
Solution
When a NetSuite workflow includes a 'Set Field Value' action that is triggered by a button, the system notes for that action will automatically show as being performed by an administrator. This is the expected system behavior for such configurations, irrespective of the 'Execute as Admin' checkbox status on the workflow action itself. No configuration change is required or possible to alter this specific attribution.
