How to Address Customer/Lead Deletion Issues with Media File Dependencies

When attempting to delete a customer or lead record, unexpected dependencies on media files, such as CSS files, may prevent the deletion.

Short answer

To address customer or lead deletion issues potentially linked to media file dependencies, one reported method involves locating the specific media file. Temporarily inactivating the file, saving, then reactivating it, may sometimes resolve the dependency, allowing the customer record to be deleted. This approach is not a standard NetSuite solution.

Scenario

Users may encounter difficulties when attempting to delete a customer or lead record in NetSuite. The system indicates dependencies, but these are unusual, pointing to media files such as .css files rather than typical transactional records. This situation prevents the customer or lead record from being removed.

Solution

While not a standard NetSuite solution for resolving customer deletion dependencies, the following steps have been reported to sometimes address issues where a customer or lead record cannot be deleted due to dependencies on media files:

  1. Navigate to the specific media file identified as a dependency.

  2. Inactivate the file by checking the 'Inactive' checkbox.

  3. Save the file.

  4. Edit the file again and reactivate it by unchecking the 'Inactive' checkbox.

  5. Return to the customer or lead record. It may now be possible to delete the record.
