How to Handle Non-Inventory Item Fulfillment and Billing with NetSuite WMS
Learn the specific considerations for fulfilling and billing non-inventory items within NetSuite WMS environments.
Short answer
NetSuite WMS can pick non-inventory items, skipping bin entry and staging. Picking strategies support various item types. Non-inventory items can be included in standard item fulfillments if the 'Can Be Fulfilled/Received' preference is enabled. Otherwise, a separate Item Fulfillment, processed directly in NetSuite, may be required for billing.
Scenario
Organizations utilizing NetSuite WMS often encounter challenges when attempting to fulfill and bill non-inventory items. The standard WMS picking processes and item fulfillment creation methods, primarily designed for inventory and assembly items, require specific adjustments to properly manage non-inventory goods.
Solution
When managing non-inventory items within NetSuite WMS for fulfillment and billing, consider the following:
NetSuite WMS is capable of picking non-inventory items. However, it is important to note that the system will skip the typical bin entry and staging steps for these item types.
Picking strategies in NetSuite WMS are not exclusively designed for inventory or assembly items; they can be configured to accommodate various item types and criteria.
For billing purposes, non-inventory items can be included in standard item fulfillment records. This is possible if the 'Can Be Fulfilled/Received' preference is enabled on the item record.
If the 'Can Be Fulfilled/Received' preference is not enabled, a separate Item Fulfillment may be required. This fulfillment should be processed directly in NetSuite, rather than through RF (Radio Frequency) devices, to ensure the non-inventory item is properly included in the customer's bill.
