How to Create Shipping Items and Configure Carriers in NetSuite?

Configure custom shipping methods and manage carrier options for sales orders in NetSuite.

Short answer

To create new shipping items in NetSuite, use Lists > Accounting > Shipping Items > New. Shipping carrier options are determined by the Shipping Label Integration feature and configured integrations, not directly creatable. The default carrier can be set in Setup > Accounting > Shipping.

Scenario

Users often seek to customize the shipping methods available on sales orders or understand how to manage the list of shipping carriers. This typically arises when standard NetSuite options do not fully meet specific business requirements for logistics and fulfillment.

Solution

To create new shipping items that will appear as 'Shipping Methods' on sales orders, follow this path:

  1. Navigate to Lists > Accounting > Shipping Items > New.

It is not possible to create new shipping carriers directly to appear in the 'Shipping Carriers' field on sales orders. The available carrier options are determined by NetSuite's shipping integrations, such as NetSuite Ship Central, which leverages ShipEngine to support a broader range of carriers. The appearance of these choices depends on whether the 'Shipping Label Integration' feature is enabled and which carrier integrations are configured.

  2. Enable the 'Shipping Label Integration' feature by navigating to Setup > COmpany > Enable Features > Transactions > Shipping & Receiving > Shipping Label Integration.

  3. Configure specific carrier integrations as required by your business.

  4. Set the default shipping carrier by navigating to Setup > Accounting > Shipping > Default Shipping Carrier.
