How to Ensure Inventory Availability for New Locations in NetSuite?
Understand why inventory created from an item record might not be immediately available for sale and how to quickly resolve it.
Short answer
When a new location is created directly from an item record in NetSuite, it is crucial to verify the 'Make Inventory Available' checkbox on the new location record. Failing to do so will result in quantities on hand but no inventory available for sale, impacting order fulfillment.
Scenario
A NetSuite user creates a new location directly from an item record. Subsequently, inventory is added to this new location, and while quantities appear to be on hand, they are not available for sale or fulfillment. This discrepancy prevents sales orders from being processed against the available stock.
Solution
To ensure inventory is available for sale when a new location is created from an item record, follow these steps:
Navigate to the newly created location record.
Locate and check the 'Make Inventory Available' checkbox.
Save the location record. This action ensures that any quantities on hand at this location are correctly recognized as available for sale and fulfillment.
