Can NetSuite Web Services Searches Support Summary, Group, or Formula Fields?
NetSuite's web services API does not inherently support the direct retrieval of summary, grouped, or formula fields from saved searches.
Short answer
NetSuite web services do not directly support summary, grouping, or formula fields within saved searches. Attempts to retrieve these field types via the WSDL or through direct testing have confirmed this limitation. Users must process raw data retrieved from web services externally to achieve similar aggregation or calculation.
Scenario
Users attempting to leverage NetSuite web services for data retrieval may encounter challenges when trying to include summary, grouped, or formula fields from saved searches. The expectation is often that these advanced saved search capabilities can be directly accessed through the web services API. However, direct support for these specific field types is not available.
Solution
Through extensive testing with NetSuite saved searches and the Web Services Description Language (WSDL), it has been determined that summary, group, or formula fields cannot be directly accessed or utilized through web services. This limitation means that any data aggregation, grouping, or complex calculations typically performed by formula fields within a saved search must be handled outside of the NetSuite web services interaction, often requiring post-processing of the raw data retrieved.
