How to Display Header Memo in NetSuite Transaction Searches

Understand the behavior of 'Memo' and 'Memo (Main)' fields with the 'Main Line' filter in NetSuite transaction search results to ensure accurate data retrieval.

Short answer

To retrieve the header-level Memo field in NetSuite transaction search results, include 'Memo (Main)' in your results when 'Main Line' is false. If 'Main Line' is true, the 'Memo' field will display the header value. For scripting, the header memo field ID is always 'memo'.

Scenario

When users create a NetSuite transaction search, they may encounter issues retrieving the header-level Memo field, especially when the 'Main Line' filter is set to false. This often results in the 'Memo' field displaying line-level description data instead of the desired header information.

Solution

When a transaction search includes a filter where 'Main Line' is false, the 'Memo' field in the Results will return the 'Description' field from each item line. In order to retrieve the Memo field at the header level in this scenario, it is necessary to include the 'Memo (Main)' field in the Results. If 'Main Line' is true, the 'Memo' column will correctly return the value from the header level. When constructing a transaction search programmatically, the script ID for the header-level memo field is 'memo'.
