How to Display the Latest Activity Title on a NetSuite Opportunity Record?
NetSuite users can configure a saved search and a custom field to dynamically show the most recent activity's title directly on the opportunity record.
Short answer
To display the latest activity title on a NetSuite opportunity record, create a saved search of type 'Opportunity'. Configure a Formula (text) result `max({title}) keep(dense_rank last order by {date})` with a Maximum summary type. Include 'Opportunity: Internal ID' as an available filter. Link this saved search to a custom field on the opportunity record via its 'Validation and Defaulting' tab.
Scenario
Users often need to quickly view the most recent activity associated with an opportunity directly on the opportunity record itself. This requirement helps in tracking engagement and understanding the current status without navigating to related records. Displaying the latest activity title provides a concise summary of recent interactions.
Solution
To display the latest activity title on an opportunity record, follow these steps:First, create a new saved search. Navigate to the 'Criteria' tab and set the 'Type' to 'Opportunity'. On the 'Results' tab, add a new result column. Set the 'Field' to 'Formula (text)' and the 'Summary type' to 'Maximum'. Enter the following formula exactly as shown: max({title}) keep(dense_rank last order by {date}). Next, go to the 'Available filters' tab and add a filter for 'Opportunity: Internal ID'. This filter is crucial for linking the opportunity and its activities. Finally, create or edit a custom field on the opportunity record. In the 'Validation and Defaulting' tab of this custom field, select the saved search created previously in the 'Search' field. This configuration will populate the custom field with the title of the latest activity associated with the opportunity.
