How to Enable Disabled Fields for NetSuite Web Services Integration

Learn how to configure NetSuite fields to accept data from SOAP or REST Web Services integrations by dynamically enabling them.

Short answer

NetSuite Web Services (SOAP or REST) cannot write to disabled or inline fields, resulting in errors. To resolve this, implement a beforeLoad User Event script. This script should programmatically enable the target field only when the execution context is identified as SOAP Web Services or REST Web Services, allowing data submission.

Scenario

When attempting to update a NetSuite record via SOAP Web Services or REST Web Services, an error occurs because the target field is either disabled or configured as an inline field. This prevents external systems from successfully writing data to that specific field, hindering integration efforts.

Solution

NetSuite's SOAP Web Services and REST Web Services are unable to write data into fields that are disabled or set as inline. To circumvent this limitation, implement a beforeLoad User Event script that conditionally enables the field.nn

  1. Create a new User Event script in NetSuite.n

  2. Implement the beforeLoad function within the script.n

  3. Inside the beforeLoad function, check the execution context. If the context is SOAP Web Services or REST Web Services, programmatically enable the field.
