How to Modify Subsidiary Hierarchy in NetSuite OneWorld
NetSuite users can now independently activate and manage subsidiary structure changes for OneWorld uplifts.
Short answer
NetSuite's 2020.1 update allows subsidiary structure changes without a support case. Activate the 'Allow Subsidiary Hierarchy to Be Modified' feature in Setup > Company > General Preferences by entering a date within 30 days. Acceptance of legally binding terms and conditions is required both upon activation and when clearing the 'is sub-subsidiary of' field for a new root subsidiary.
Scenario
Users preparing for a subsidiary structure change or an uplift to NetSuite OneWorld need to understand the updated process for modifying subsidiary hierarchies. This includes activating the necessary features and navigating the associated legal acknowledgments, which no longer require direct NetSuite support intervention as of the 2020.1 update.
Solution
As of the NetSuite 2020.1 update, modifying the subsidiary structure no longer requires opening a support case. The process for activating and completing a subsidiary hierarchy modification is as follows:
To activate the subsidiary hierarchy modification feature, navigate to Setup > Company > General Preferences.
In the "Allow Subsidiary Hierarcy to Be Modified" field, enter a date. This date cannot be more than 30 days in the future.
Upon entering the date, a prompt will appear asking to accept terms and conditions. This step must be completed, as it is legaly binding.
When clearing the "is sub-subsidiary of" field on the new root subsidiary, another "accept terms and conditions" prompt will appear. This step must also be completed, as it is legaly binding.
