How to Search for All Contacts (Primary and Other) Associated with a NetSuite Customer

NetSuite's TransactionSearch primarily links to primary contacts, but a direct search on contacts allows retrieval of all associated contacts and their roles.

Short answer

To find all contacts (primary or otherwise) linked to a NetSuite customer, perform a search directly on the Contact record type. Use the Customer as a criterion to filter results, which will also provide access to the Contact Role field found on the Customer Relationship sublist for each contact.

Scenario

When attempting to retrieve contact information via web services, users may find that TransactionSearch primarily allows joining on primary contacts. This limitation prevents the retrieval of other contacts associated with a customer, along with their specific contact roles.

Solution

To effectively retrieve all contacts associated with a NetSuite customer, including both primary and other contacts, follow these steps:

  1. Initiate a search directly on the Contact record type.

  2. Specify the Customer as a search criterion to filter for contacts linked to a particular customer.

  3. The search results will include all contacts (primary or not) related to that customer. The Contact Role for each contact can be found on the Customer Relationship sublist.
