Why Can’t a Sales Role Authorize Commissions in NetSuite?
NetSuite's default behavior restricts sales roles to authorizing commissions only for their direct subordinates, requiring an alternative role for broader access.
Short answer
NetSuite sales roles are inherently limited to authorizing commissions solely for their subordinates. To enable broader commission authorization, assign the necessary permissions to a non-sales role. This ensures compliance with NetSuite's default security model while providing the required functionality for commission management.
Scenario
Users assigned to a sales role in NetSuite may encounter an issue where they are unable to authorize commissions for all employees, even when the role appears to have the correct permissions. The 'Authorize Commissions' employee list only displays the user's direct subordinates, preventing broader commission management.
Solution
NetSuite's design restricts sales roles to authorizing commissions exclusively for their direct subordinates, as detailed in SuiteAnswer 38662. To overcome this limitation and enable a role to authorize commissions for all employees, the recommended solution is to:1. Create or identify an existing role that is not classified as a sales role.2. Add the necessary commission authorization permissions to this non-sales role.3. Assign this modified or new non-sales role to the user who needs to authorize commissions for a wider range of employees.
