How to Make a Project Task Eligible as a Parent Task in NetSuite
Project tasks with estimated time cannot serve as parent tasks, impacting project structure and hierarchy.
Short answer
To assign a project task as a parent task in NetSuite, the prospective parent task must not have any estimated hours allocated to it. If a task has estimated time, it will not appear as an available option for selection as a parent. Ensure the parent task's estimated time field is empty to enable its use in structuring project hierarchies.
Scenario
Users attempting to structure project tasks in NetSuite may encounter situations where certain tasks are not available for selection as a parent task. This typically occurs when trying to establish a hierarchical relationship between tasks, but the desired parent task does not appear in the dropdown list of available options. This prevents the proper organization and nesting of project activities.
Solution
For a project task to be eligible for selection as a parent task, it must not have any estimated time assigned to it. If a task has estimated hours, NetSuite will not display it as an option when attempting to assign a parent task. To resolve this, navigate to the project task record and ensure the 'Estimated Work' or 'Estimated Time' field is empty. Once the estimated time is removed, the task will become available for selection as a parent task.
