How to Resolve Missing Contract Items After Sales Order Creation in NetSuite?

Understand the distinct processes for contract and contract item creation and ensure the necessary scheduled script is properly configured in NetSuite.

Short answer

NetSuite contracts are created upon Sales Order save, while contract items are generated by the R03-SS : Create Contract Items hrly scheduled script. If contract items are missing, verify that this script, deployed with the Contract Renewals bundle, is actively scheduled to run hourly within your NetSuite account.

Scenario

When a Sales Order is saved in NetSuite, the corresponding contract is successfully created. However, the expected contract items associated with that contract are not generated, leading to incomplete contract records. This discrepancy indicates a potential issue with the background process responsible for item creation.

Solution

NetSuite handles the creation of contracts and their associated contract items through two distinct processes. Contracts are generated immediately upon saving a Sales Order. In contrast, contract items are created by a dedicated scheduled script, R03-SS : Create Contract Items hrly, which is designed to run hourly. Consequently, a delay between the creation of a contract and its items is normal.A critical configuration step is often overlooked when the Contract Renewals bundle is initially deployed into a NetSuite account. While the R03-SS : Create Contract Items hrly script is deployed, it is not automatically scheduled to run. To ensure contract items are created:

  1. Navigate to the script deployment record for R03-SS : Create Contract Items hrly.

  2. Define a schedule for this script.

  3. Set the script to run every hour.
