Can Sales Territory Records Be Deleted in NetSuite?
NetSuite users often seek to remove sales territory records, but direct deletion is not supported through scripting, and the primary method for removal in the UI is inactivation.
Short answer
Direct deletion of sales territory records in NetSuite is not supported via scripting. While the user interface does not offer a direct 'delete' button for sales territories, these records can be effectively removed from active use by marking them as 'Inactive' within their record settings. This approach ensures data integrity while preventing their use.
Scenario
Users attempting to remove sales territory records from NetSuite encounter difficulties. The expectation is often that these records can be directly deleted, either through scripting or a dedicated user interface button, similar to other record types. However, standard methods for deletion do not appear to apply directly to sales territory records.
Solution
Direct deletion of sales territory records in NetSuite is not supported.
The salesterritory record type is not scriptable, meaning it cannot be manipulated or removed programmatically through SuiteScript.
Previous attempts to identify hidden or alternative scriptable record types that might facilitate deletion did not yield a scriptable solution. This included investigations using functions such as:
nsServerCall(nsJSONProxyURL, "getRecordTypes");Note that this function is not supported in current NetSuite documentation and is considered outdated.
Instead of deletion, sales territory records can be managed in the user interface by marking them as inactive. This prevents their further use without permanently removing the historical data.
To inactivate a sales territory record:
Navigate to the sales territory record.
Locate and check the 'Inactive' checkbox.
Save the record.
