How Does NetSuite Determine Price Priority: Item vs. Pricing Group?

Understand how NetSuite prioritizes item-specific pricing over customer pricing groups when calculating transaction line item costs.

Short answer

In NetSuite, item-specific pricing, configured on the individual item record (Sales/Pricing subtab), takes precedence. This means that if both an item's price level and a customer's pricing group (configured on the customer record's Group Pricing/Price Group subtab) are applicable, the item's specific pricing will be applied first on the transaction's Items subtab.

Scenario

Users often encounter situations where multiple pricing rules might apply to a single item on a sales transaction. This can lead to confusion regarding which price level NetSuite will ultimately use. Specifically, there is a need to clarify the hierarchy between item-specific pricing and pricing group assignments.

Solution

NetSuite applies a clear hierarchy when determining the price level for items on a transaction. Item-specific pricing, which is configured directly on the item record (typically under the Sales/Pricing subtab), will always take precedence. If a customer is also assigned to a pricing group (configured on the customer record's Group Pricing/Price Group subtab), and both pricing methods could apply, the item's individual price level will override the pricing group's influence. The final price level is then reflected on the transaction's Items subtab.
