How to Add a State/Province Filter to NetSuite Saved Searches (2014.1)

Learn how to configure NetSuite saved searches to include a flexible State/Province filter, addressing limitations in older NetSuite versions.

Short answer

To add a State/Province filter to a NetSuite saved search, edit the search to include a Formula (Text) field for {state} in Criteria, Results, and Available Filters. Configure the Available Filter's Formula (Text) to 'Show in Footer' with a 'State' label, and set the Default Text Field Filter to 'contains'.

Scenario

Users may encounter challenges when attempting to add a State/Province filter to NetSuite saved searches, particularly in older versions like 2014.1. The standard filtering options might not provide the desired flexibility, requiring a custom approach to enable effective state-based data segmentation.

Solution

One option is to utilize the '%' wildcard character within existing filters. However, this method requires users to manually input the wildcard, which may not be the most convenient solution. A more flexible approach involves editing the saved search by performing the following three steps:

  1. Under Criteria, add a Formula (Text) field. Set the formula to {state}. Set the criteria to 'contains' 'FL' (note: a value must be set here; this can be any value and is changeable at the footer level after the results are loaded).

  2. Under Results, add a Formula (Text) field. Set the formula to {state}. Set the custom label to 'State'.

  3. Under Available Filters, set the Default Text Field Filter to 'contains'. Add a filter Formula (Text) and tick 'Show in Footer'. Set the Label to 'State'.
