How to Customize NetSuite Order Fulfillment Emails Without Web Store Module?

Learn how to dynamically include transaction field values in NetSuite order fulfillment emails by leveraging web store-style methods, even without a web store.

Short answer

Customize NetSuite order fulfillment emails by accessing transaction field values using the `<%=getCurrentAttribute('recordtype','fieldid')%>` syntax. Copy the default HTML into the Customization column, insert the attribute calls for desired fields, and save to dynamically populate email content with relevant order details.

Scenario

Organizations often need to customize the content of NetSuite order fulfillment emails to include specific transaction details. This requirement can arise even when the NetSuite Web Store module is not in use, necessitating a method to dynamically retrieve and display field values directly within the email template.

Solution

NetSuite provides a mechanism to retrieve values from transaction fields for inclusion in order fulfillment emails, even without the Web Store module. This is achieved using a web store-style method with the following syntax:

<%=getCurrentAttribute('recordtype','fieldid')%>

To implement this customization, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Setup > Accounting > Preferences > Click Customize Fulfillment Email.

  2. In the Customization column, enter the custom text. The Default Text column displays the HTML source code for the fulfillment email message. The blank fields in the Customization column are for customized changes to the existing HTML. Copy the HTML in the Default Text column, make your changes, and then paste your customized HTML in the Customization column.

  3. Insert the customized HTML, including the getCurrentAttribute calls, into the Customization column. An example of a customized HTML snippet is provided below:

html
<html><head> <style> .smalltext { font-size: 9pt; } .texttable { font-size: 10pt; padding: 2 0 2 0 ; border-style: solid; border-width: 1 1 1 1; border-color: white; vertical-align: top;} .texttablebold { font-size: 10pt; padding: 2 0 2 0; font-weight: bold; border-style: solid; border-width: 1 0 0 0; border-color: white; vertical-align: top;} .texttablectr { font-size: 10pt; text-align: center; padding: 2 0 2 0; border-style: solid; border-width: 1 0 0 0; border-color: white; vertical-align: top;} .texttablert { font-size: 10pt; text-align: right; padding: 2 0 2 0; border-style: solid; border-width: 1 0 0 0; border-color: white; vertical-align: top;} </style> </head> <body style"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Transaction Id: <%=getCurrentAttribute('salesorder','tranid')%> Dear {1}, Thank you for shopping at {6}. Your order no. {2} has been fulfilled. {3} {4} {7}{6} Some additional text: Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. </body></html>
