How to Customize Task Status Options in NetSuite?
NetSuite's native task statuses cannot be directly modified, but a robust workaround involves creating custom lists and fields to achieve desired task management flexibility.
Short answer
NetSuite does not currently allow direct modification of native task statuses like "Not Started," "In Progress," or "Completed." To implement custom task statuses, users can create a custom list for status values and then add a custom field of type "List/Record" that references this custom list to their task records. This provides a flexible alternative.
Scenario
NetSuite users often require more granular or specific status options for tasks than the standard "Not Started," "In Progress," and "Completed" provided natively. Attempts to directly modify or add new values to the default task status list are not supported within the standard NetSuite customization framework. This limitation can hinder specific workflow requirements.
Solution
The direct modification of NetSuite's native task statuses (e.g., "Not Started," "In Progress," "Completed") is not supported through standard customization. While this functionality has been a subject of enhancement requests, a primary workaround involves implementing a custom list and a custom status field. To achieve custom task statuses:
Create a new Custom List to define all desired task status values (e.g., "Pending Review", "On Hold", "Approved").
Create a new Custom Field on the Task record. Set its type to "List/Record" and link it to the Custom List created in the previous step. This approach enables organizations to define and utilize specific task statuses tailored to their unique business processes.
