How to Display Custom Saved Search Results in NetSuite Global Search

Learn how to configure a public preferred saved search to influence the display of customer-specific information directly within NetSuite's global search results.

Short answer

To display additional customer information like shipping addresses in NetSuite's global search, create a public saved search on the Customer record type. Mark it as "My Preferred Search Results" on the Results tab. When global searching for a customer, especially using a record-type prefix, this preferred search will override standard results, presenting your customized columns.

Scenario

Users often need to quickly view specific customer details, such as shipping addresses, directly from NetSuite's global search without navigating to the customer record. The standard global search results may not include these desired fields, requiring extra steps to access critical information.

Solution

To customize global search results for customer records, follow these steps:

  1. Create a Saved Search:

Navigate to Reports > Saved Searches > All Saved Searches > New. Select "Customer" as the record type.

  2. Add Desired Columns:

On the "Results" tab, add the "Shipping Address" field (or any other relevant fields) to the columns.

  3. Configure Search Preferences:

    • On the "Definition" tab, check the "Public" checkbox.
    • On the "Results" tab, check the "My Preferred Search Results" checkbox.
  4. Save the Search:

Provide a descriptive name for the saved search and save it.Once configured, NetSuite's global search will prioritize this preferred search under specific conditions:

    • If a global search query (e.g., "ABC Inc") returns results exclusively for customers, your preferred saved search will be utilized to display the customized columns.
    • To ensure the global search returns only customer records, use a record-type prefix such as "cust:" or "cu:" (e.g., "cust:ABC Inc"). This directs the search to specifically target customer records, increasing the likelihood of your preferred search being applied.
