How to Fix “Error on Generate Depreciation Schedule” with Mandatory Custom Segment
Learn how to correctly configure custom segments in NetSuite Fixed Asset Management (FAM) to avoid errors when generating depreciation schedules.
Short answer
A mandatory custom segment applied to "FAM Depreciation history" prevents NetSuite from generating depreciation schedules. To fix this, remove "FAM Depreciation history" from the custom segment's setup. Fixed asset transactions source segments directly from the asset, making this application redundant and resolving the error, allowing the FAM bundle to function correctly.
Scenario
Users attempting to generate depreciation schedules in NetSuite Fixed Asset Management (FAM) may encounter errors. This typically occurs when a custom segment, configured to be mandatory everywhere, is also applied to "FAM Depreciation history" within its application and sourcing settings. The system is unable to generate the schedule because it requires the custom segment on the form, which conflicts with the setup.
Solution
To resolve the error encountered when generating depreciation schedules due to a mandatory custom segment, follow these steps:
Navigate to the setup of the custom segment.
Locate the "Application & Sourcing" subtab for the custom segment.
Remove "FAM Depreciation history" from the list of applications for the custom segment. This adjustment is necessary because all transactions related to fixed assets source the segment directly from the asset itself, rendering the application of the custom segment to "FAM Depreciation history" redundant and problematic. Once removed, the Fixed Asset Management bundle will function as expected, allowing depreciation schedules to be generated successfully.
