Why NetSuite Online Form Submissions May Fail Due to User Event Scripts

Understand how User Event scripts can prevent successful record creation from NetSuite online form submissions.

Short answer

NetSuite online form submissions trigger User Event (UE) scripts on target records like customers or leads. If these scripts encounter errors during the record creation or update process initiated by a form submission, the submission may fail. Review and debug any active UE scripts on relevant record types to ensure successful form processing.

Scenario

Users may encounter issues where NetSuite online form submissions are not successfully creating or updating records. While the 'Online Forms' feature itself can be enabled, subsequent attempts by the system to process form data and generate new customer or lead records may fail. This often manifests as an error message during the submission process, preventing data from being saved.

Solution

When an online form is submitted, NetSuite processes the data and attempts to create or update a record (e.g., Customer or Lead) based on configured matching rules and duplicate handling settings. If no matching record is found, NetSuite may attempt to create a new record, depending on the duplicate handling configuration. This record creation or update process triggers any active User Event (UE) scripts deployed on the target record type. If these User Event scripts encounter errors during their execution, the online form submission will fail, and the record will not be created or updated successfully. To resolve this, administrators should review and debug any User Event scripts deployed on the record types targeted by online forms (e.g., Customer, Lead). Ensure that these scripts are robust and handle all potential scenarios without errors, especially during record creation or update events initiated by external sources like online forms.
